Women in Business Leadership Award

Women compromise a minority of business leaders. According to Catalyst, only 21.2% of S&P 500 companies’ board seats are occupied by women, and just 5.2% of these companies' CEOs are women. The Women in Business Scholarship helps women pursue undergraduate and master's degrees in business management and overcome gender barriers.

The program operates at the local, District 12, and the International Zonta Club levels. In addition to the local grant, Zonta awards up to $2,000 at the District level and up to $8,000 internationally.

Since the program's inception, Zonta International has awarded 602 Scholarships, totaling more than US $1.4 million, to 460 women representing 57 countries.

Eligibility

Women of any age, pursuing a business program with major field of accounting, economics, finance, business management, marketing, operations management, human resources management, international business, or entrepreneurship at an accredited postsecondary institute, who demonstrate outstanding potential in the field and are living or studying in a Zonta District, are eligible.

Students must be enrolled in at least the second year of an undergraduate program through the final year of a Master’s program at the time the application is submitted. Applicants must be in school at the time the scholarship funds are disbursed and must not graduate before funds are disbursed.  Previous International Scholarship recipients may not apply to renew the Scholarship for a second year.

For a college student accepted into a major in the business school, a one-time award of $2,000 is available. Applications are usually due March 1, and decisions are typically made by April 15. The grant is made for the following academic year directly to the university or college in the student’s name. Women applicants must be enrolled in at least the second year of an undergraduate program through the final year of a master’s program but will not have yet graduated at the time funds are disbursed.
